Community Standards

These standards apply to comments, OCR corrections, reports, feedback forms, usernames, profile text, and any future discussion features made available in SpookStack.

SpookStack is intended for analysis, research, and discussion of archival material. Strong disagreement, investigative criticism, and political argument are allowed. Abuse that makes the service unsafe or unusable is not.

Policy prepared on May 2, 2026. This page is intended to serve as the baseline moderation policy for future commenting and abuse-report workflows.

Allowed Content

Critical Discussion
Users may strongly criticize governments, intelligence services, corporations, political actors, and other powerful institutions or elites.
Evidence-Based Disagreement
Users may challenge claims, interpretations, OCR outputs, moderation decisions, or editorial choices when doing so in a factual and non-abusive way.
Archival Quotations For Analysis
Quoted historical material may be discussed for research, documentation, or critique, but it must not be used as a pretext for present-day abuse or glorification.

Prohibited Content

Hate Speech And Dehumanization
No slurs, dehumanizing language, or attacks targeting race, ethnicity, nationality, religion, caste, sex, gender, sexual orientation, disability, or similar personal status.
Harassment
No bullying, dogpiling, stalking, repeated intimidation, sexual harassment, humiliation campaigns, or attempts to drive a person off the service.
Inflammatory Or Escalatory Content
No flamebait, calls to mob another user, celebration of harm, threats, or content whose primary purpose is to provoke outrage rather than contribute meaningfully.
Privacy And Safety Abuse
No doxxing, exposure of personal data, impersonation, extortion, or instructions intended to facilitate abuse of identifiable people.

Criticism Of Powerful Actors

SpookStack permits forceful criticism of the ruling elite, public officials, political movements, state agencies, and corporate power. That allowance is for criticism, satire, and investigative speech.

It is not an exception for hate speech, dehumanization, threats, or targeted harassment. Moderation will distinguish between criticism of power and abusive attacks on people.

Moderation And Enforcement

Review Actions
Content may be left visible, queued for review, hidden, removed, or used to limit a user's ability to post or report further content.
User Reports
Users will be able to report harassment, hate speech, threats, spam, and similar violations directly from community content surfaces.
Automated Assistance
Machine-learning filters may assist moderation by scoring likely harassment, hate speech, or abuse, but moderation actions may still require human review.
