BEY suid that he had read in the paper that the Japanese were fomtar~
ing soma supposedly relipious organizations among the negroes but insisted <
that they had absolutely nothing to do with the Moorish Science Temple. He
Said he had never scun any Japanese in the vicinity and did not know of any,
members of the organizetion having anything at all. to do with the Japanese.

It was noted thet a lerge American flag hung on the wall of the room
in which the interview took plece, as did a flag bearing a crescent and star,
which was apparently the umblem of the organization. w
BLY stated tht formerly religious services were hold every week,
but no services had ben conducted for sometime inasmuch °s the colony had
become too large and thcy had no suitable plsce to hold the meetings. He
said thet all members o. the colony were registercd for thy draft and tina’
if he knew of anyone who wast not registered he would report them to the Draft
Board himself. He said it was the policy of the organization to cooperate
with the authoritics ov” the law, and he seid he knew of instances where the
mationnl head, KIRK BY, had turned over to the police members who had
committed crimes and had thun peid the necessary fines to get them out of
jail. They said that the Local”colony owns one Hundred thirty-cight acres
and that they have built the various buildings themselves. He advised that
frequent donations were received from headquarters in Chicago and also from
the ether temples and thaf 211 that he had to do was to write to Chicago or
one of the other temples ani make a request for money and it was ferthcoming
immediately; stating he had obtained everything he had asked for in the three
years he had been there. He said this colony never had to send any money to
any of the ether branches. When asked the reason for this, he said that this
eolony was known as the National Home and that a number of the members who
"den't feel well" would ceme there to regain their health. He said further
that the membership of this ¢eolony did not werk on salaries and hence had no
means of making mouvy for themsclves, though they did raise most of their
food, He said.jost of the other tumples were located in large cities, where
many of the members had jobs at food salaries, and they supported the colony
by free-will donations, w
BEY stated that the orpunizution has a monthly publication called
the "Meorish Voite" of whieh is wife is editor. He said this in mimuorraphed

He furnished 2 copy of this mo,atiu and u perusal of it revealed that it
consisted largely of "news letters" from the varieus temples, and it did not
