Ve* At your request, there is set out a brief resume of a reference to the FBI in the television speech o® Fulton Sheen, Auzitliary Bishop of Wew York, on April 26, 1953. This program was not. monitored and the. following data is based on a recollection of the program by SA Hein, Crime Reco Sections 5 Sheen's speech attacked Communism and the present "peace maneuvers" of Communism. He stated that Communists have always perated with the same deceptive and deceitful tactics. In llustration, he mentioned an incident which occurred some years ago hen he was teaching at a Washington, D. C., college. Prior to ne of his classes, @ young man contacted him, claiming to have een a refugee from a Communist country where his parents had been urged. The caller clatmed to have written a book exposing XN onmunism, to possess confidential Communist documents, and to be \ eager to accompany Sheen around the country tn Sheen s verbal aN ttacks on Communism. The caller wanted an immediate answer to his equest. Ay Sheen stated that he put off an answer to the caller and x immediately thereafter notified the FBI that he had been "visited by a Soviet agent,” giving the FBI the name of the caller. According to Sheen, the FBI told him the man was, tn fact, o Communist of YQ some tmportance, who had been "lost" for some time. According to \ Il Sheen, the FBI requested that he present all information he had and 8 told him: the FBI would handle the matter from thereon. ‘Sheen satd he had recognized this imposter because Communists always have used the same tactics. He made no compli= mentary statements concerning the FBI.
