I learned some tine during this period that the PHA
held several meetings to discuss their future policy, but
I never attended any of those neetings as I Was rorking
at the Peanut Hine. I next heard that ail of the men at
Mine A had joined U.M.i. so I found out that the balance of the men rere
going up to the UW hall te sign up. I decided I wanted to go back to Mine
A so I tent up to the hell and signed up. Nobody threatened me or forced
me to sipm up.

paving more money. Conditions at Iline A rere better after the fall of
1941 because the U.M.t. raised our basic rete scale from 86.7% a day to
$7.00 a dcy. The leaders in the UM. local at Hine A secmed to be about the
