Although the author of that remark was Chief of
Operations for Project
J~~TE, he was unaware, as re-
ported earlier in this chapter, of the Mafia connection;

but he had indicated that one of his hopes was that
the invasion might lead to the death of Castro.*
In
response to a specific question about the AMHINT pro-
gram, all he could say was:
