One such response concerning the
possibility of a USN Combat Air Patrol
(CAP) during the course
of the three-day invasion was precursor to more serious dis-
cussions of this sUbject which would come up in subsequent
meetings of the Cuban Study Group.
Hawkins's questioning of
the pilot also permitted Hawkins to interject a reference to
an air strike on the afternoon of D+l
(18 April 1961) in which
two American pilots had participated.**
