OBJECTIVE AND DETAILS OF WORK :
The objective of this
research
was
to develop screening
and bio-assay
techniques
for psychomi-
metic
(capable of proudcing
a psychotic-! ike
state)
agents which
do not
involve human
testing.
The work was
not classified.
APPROXIMATE TIME

SIGNIFICANT ASPECTS
:
Although
this
research
was confined
to
the
use of small
animals,
the
last paragraph
of
the proposal
states:
"In
the course of the work
this year we have
tested
a number of
-compounds of
a completely different chemical
nature
from
the
known
psychomimetic agents.
The animal
tests
indicate
that
these
com-
pounds may
be psychomimetic
in man.
During
the coming year we
propose
to
complete
the work
on
the screening
techniques
so
far
developed and put
them on
a
basis
that will
make
them
useful
as
routine
laboratory
test procedures.
Also,
we
shall
continue work
with
the new agents,
carrying
them
to
human
test
to verify
their
psychomimetic activity."
There
is
no
indication
that
testing
on
human beings
occurred.
