Consisted of many (in excess of 25) grantees, both individuals find institutions, in various parts or the United States and the world. 08JECT IVc AND DETAILS OF WORK : As the Society for the Investiga- tion of Human Ecology (SIHE) became better known in the scienti- fic community and its reputation grew, it became the recipient of many unsolicited proposals from researchers around the world. Since some of these proposals were of interest to the Agency, it was the policy of the Society to encourage research proposals. It was, therefore, decided that in order to maintain its bona fides with the scientific community, the Society should fund selected smaller research proposals as a "cover", even though there was little, if any, interest in or prospects for a product of value to CIA from these proposals. APPROXIMATE TIME SPAN : 1953 - 1962 SIGNIFICANT ASPECTS: None, although on reading the file without prior knowledge of the purpose of these "cover" grants, they could be misinterpreted as to the extent of CIA interest.
