- 3 - In the course of a discussion about a further Parliamentary Statement, the Foreign and Commonwealth Secretary said that he would like to keep open the possi- bility of a further statement within a day or two. The Prime Minister said that a statement would certainly be needed if Mrs. Bloch's body had indeed been found, as reported in the press, and he thought that any statement should cover both the need for Mrs. Bloch's murderers to be brought to justice and the question of assurances of non-harassment for British citizens. Reverting to the question of a break in diplomatic relations, the Foreign and Commonwealth Secretary said that in the present atmosphere he thought that a break would be highly provocative and could result in the arrest and torture of British subjects. He could not guarantee that his conclusion was right, but he had thought very carefully before reaching this conclusion, and would continue to watch the situation closely. The Prime Minister said that he accepted Mr. Crosland's judgement, but asked him to keep the question under daily review. + t might be necessary to move, in the face of public opinion. E.A.J. Fergusson, Esq., Foreign and Commonwealth Office.
