Memorandum for Mr, Rosen
Birmingham advised that the bomb is believed to have been placed
[fon or or next to a limestone sill of a double window near the northeast corner
the church and that it could have easily been concealed at that point under
2 "concrete stairway. The force of the explosion demolished the stairway,
propelled concrete fragments of the stairs in all directions,
The explosion caused damage to the firm earth next to the window
in the form of a U shaped crater measuring approximately six feet in width,
and two feet in depth, The sill of the double window consisting of a solid piece
of limestone eight feet in length was shattered, A hole approximately seven
feet square in a partition at the back of the ladies’ lounge opposite the double
window resulted from propelled brick and stone from the blast.
The heavy wire mesh screen over the outside of the double
window was badly distorted, broken from its frame and propelled into the
ladies’ lounge,
The principal bomb damage to the church was confined to the ladies"

lounge and adjoining rest room, However, every Window and room in the
church including the Sunday School assembly room and main church auditorium
were affected by the blast.
