Agent in Charge Raymond Faisst_ of ngham Office
telephonically advised §. Extra Duty
Supervisor, that the Sixteen ptist Church, Sixteenth

Street and Sixth Avenue, South, Birmingham, Alabama, was bombed
at 10:25 A.M., Central Standard Time, The rear end of the church
was badly damaged and several persons injured, Faisst stated he
was on the way to the scene of the bombing with Agents of the.
Birmingham Office,
At 1:45 P,M., Eastern Daylight Savings Time, Assistant
Special Agent in Charge Robert Jensen, Birmingham, advised the
SAC and Agents of the Birmingham Office were at the scene of the
bombing conducting investigation, They had determined from Fire
Marshal Rosenfeld that he estimated ten sticks of 40 per cent
dynamite had been dropped on the road surface near the church and
ignited with a fuse-type igniter, He stated damage to the church
was extensive, probably as much as $20,000 to $30,000, Investigation
is being coordinated with the Birmingham Police Department and
Lieutenant House of the Birmingham Police Department is at the
hospital attempting to identify the dead and injured.
