| As you may know the Attorney General of Alabama and
| the Police Department of the City of Birmingham, Alabama
\ have reopened the investigation into the 1963 bombing of
the 16th Street Baptist Church in Birmingham. We have been
jointly working on the investigation for approximately six
months. In the course of the investigation we have received
some information from the FBI Office in Birmingham--primarily
302 form reports of interviews with suspects and other Ku
Klux Klan members in the Birmingham area at the time. C
eo.
| We are now at a point in the investigation where we >
would like to interview a number of the FBI agents who worked | 2
_on the case in 1963 and '64 in Birmingham. I have enclosed a
ist“sf the names of these agents. poof
We feel that it is necessary for our investigators to
talk to these agents to develop background information on the jaw
case which is not included in the reports that are contained
in the case file. These agents undoubtedly spoke to a great
many people and had leads of which we ak gnaware.
