Re Birmingham airtel to Bureau dated 5/31/68,
SUMMARY
Considerable agent time expended during past week
to resolve whereabouts of bombing suspects in connection
with bombing of residence of LILLIE BYRD, Rankin County,
Miss., on 6/6/68. All bombing suspects in any way connected
with this case have been accounted for during the time of
above-mentioned bombing.
A white male who refused to identify himself vol-
untarily appeared at the Birmingham Office of the FBI within
the past week, and stated that captioned bombing was committed
by two Negro males who were then incarcerated in the Jefferson
County Jail. This individual stated that these two Negroes
were released from jail by unidentified Deputy Sheriffs in
order to secompse ht Ba / 2h bombing. It is difficult to determine
