This "Allah" 4S the recognized leader of the
"Fiver Percenters" and was one of the six arrested on
May 31, 1965 wr the NYCPD. He has been identified as J
Clarence,/13xk-Smith of 21 West 112th Street, New York City,’_ .

being an NOI member at present, he is known to have been

Because of Smith's influence over these youths,
they like to consider themselves "Muslims" and many of them
shave their heads and take Arabic sounding names. iIn fact,
none of them follow the tenets of the orthodox Islamic
religion nor do they actually belong to or follow the teachings
of the NOI. These youths do, however, claim to be the "five
percent" of the folloyers of Elijah Muhammad who telieve in
