March 17, 1981
Regarding the editor's editorial on the FBI which appeared in February
1981 igeue, I, ag an American citizen, take exception to the «ditor'a
remarks concerning ABSCAM.. What’s your problem, Mr. Editor? Are you
trying to make a case of innocence for a congreseman who got hie hand
caught in the cookie jar? A cravk is a exook regardiegs of who he is
and I'm grateful for the FBI's handling of the ABSCAM which every
citizen T talked to fa also in agreement with the end results.
You quote statistics Like a supposed authority. Your comments are not
germane to the evidence gathered.
Mr, Webster, Director of the FBI, gets my vote ef confidence atid as far
as I'm concerned any elected official who accepts money under any pre-
tense other than his paycheck and legitimate expenses ja guilty of the
worst kind of crime. Betrayal of the public trust, Mr. Editar, ie what
most citizens are upset about. Ge out on the street and ask the average
citizen what he objects to and you will discover that he or she fig totally
against untrustworthy political people of all levels, and at least. Mr.
Webster is trying to do something about the problem that we all suspected
but no one but Mr. Webster had the guts to do something about. That's
more than can be said for Fat Jack.
