Drugs, in amaringly lerge quaxtities, find their way into the institution, A "shot" sells for as low as & carton of cigarettes, (Cigaer- ettes, incidentally, 4a the medium of exchange) Captain Head, of courses, is aware that Hackethal has "propo- sitioned” Capone. . . that he has offered cr agreed to feed him - - - Slandestinely, of course, It is now up to Captain Head to contact one of the "C" 0811 house inmates - one who hap been "kept" fran the hele by Capteln Bead for just such Purpose; Sques ling. : With a confident feeling of success in the propossd investi= gation, Captain Head seunters over the stockade, creating in the minde of many inmates the Wonder that somsone of the many violent and desperate characters within the walls doss not retaliate for punishments inflicted through Captain Head's arrests, Captain Head himself dees not recommand nor inflict the punishment - - the Deputy Warden (feniliarly known as Sehnozrle because of his jong and prominent nose) does so, after the offender has been brought before him and given a “trial” or hearing. The squenler, of course, 1a never present at these "trials", and, unless the canvict has been caught in the very act of which he stands accused, he has no chance whatsoever of evading isolation or the hole. Isolation,it may be well to explain, is removal from the cell house in which a man is confined with his fallow prisoners, enjoying a1] the ilberties the other Prisoners are entitied ta - including stockade, movies, radio and so on ~ to a restricted portion of the Deputy Warden's Building above the "hole", In insolation, of courses, a man finds himself a@lone and confronted by two blank Walls, a wall with an inaccessible window
