Your letter was received on March 17th and I want to
take this opportunity to thank you for your kind comment regarding my
administration of the FBI. I deeply appreciate the confidence you —
expressed in the work of this Bureau.
In answer to your inguiry, mation received by this
Bureau concerning the birthplace of e varies. Our
records show he has given his place of birth as: Brooklyn, New York;
Chicago, Illinois; and New York City. This Bureau does not have any
material regarding Capone which we can send you; however, you may
wish to refer to "The FBI Story," 2 book written by Don Whitehead,
which contains some data relative to him. A copy may be available st
_your local library.
-) Capone was sentenced on October 24, 1931, for violation
\ of the Federal income tax laws, which does not come within the inveati-
gative jurisdiction of the FBI. He was released from the Federal
Correctional Institution, Terminal Island, California, on January 19,
1939, and died on January 25, 1947, at Palm Island, Miami, Florida.
