J 3 UNITED STATES GOVERNMENT ~ Memorandum TO : Mr, Evans Gy DATE: 7/2/62 From : A, B, ma a supjecr: FRANK LEE MOBRIS, aka. ~ FUGITIVE JOHN WIL IAWCANGLIN « FUGITIVE CLARENC GLIN - FUGITIVE ESCAPED FEDERAL PRISONERS CONSPIRACY 1 Extensive investigation has been conducted since notification that the Anglin brothers and Morris escaped from their cells at Alcatraz on the night of June 11, 12, 1962, This has included coverage of all known associates and contacts of the trio, together with the issuance of wanted flyers and identification orders, Exhaustive searches have been made of the Alcatraz Island, Angel Island and numerous leads have been run out in the San Francisco Bay area without any indication fiat they were able to successfully traverse the treacherous currents, Debris boats are continuing to sweep the Bay area in an effort to detect bodies of the escapees, - Our San Francisco Office determined that the tits at the time of the escape would have caused a free flowing body to flow out to the Pacific under the Golden Gate Bridge and that because of the force of the tides, the reaching of Angel Island would have been difficult. / ACTION In view of the findings to date and absence of any evidence that subjects survived the escape attempt, SAC, San Francisco has been instructed to limit future | investigation accordingly.
