For more than a year T have neclected writing you
concerning a group of people, who have erranized a
colony in the mountains of Habersham County, six miles
from Clarkesville, Seorgia. This colony is called
the Cooperative Co*muni ty or I have heard some say,

A man by the name of oor | came
to Habersham County in 1936 and rented part of the
buildings of the old A & “College. There were several
boys and girls, all from way some place else that com
*posed the class -graim. Ne yorms men or women of this
section were ever invited to enroll in’ the classes,
as far as we people here know. ZcGE¢3R"” fa claimed to
be of the Colunbia Iiniversity. He seemed to be a very
smart man, but in my conversations with hin, he never
would answer me as to what kind of a sehool or organ-
ization Le had. Ee went so far as to say it was too
comlicated to exolain at present. This was al] in
the year 1936 and 1937.

They do farming and teach the mountain people how to
make their homes better, that is, all wro belong to the
colony, they also teach the children school work in
the home. This is all done by pecole who are smart
and are from uo in New "neland, most of them; some from
New Yor and sore from Philadelphia.
