A second source advised on Octcber 31, 1960, that a new organization Known as the Chicago Committee to Defend the Bill of Rights was formally launches in Chicage at a mecsting On Octohar 26, 1980, The stated prigary purpose or the new organization was to seek the abolition cof the HCUA, and RICHARD CRILEY was named as its Executive Secretary, after having been the guiding force in arrangizg the Getcher 26, 1960, meeting. re = ~e — = c--:- The first source, in October, 1960, advised that CRILEY again attended 2 meeting of the Illinuis District CP leadershin wn Cotober 25, 1900, av which time he reportes on the oreaniza-~ “ional weeting of tne CCDBR. CRILEY stated that the iruzediate purpose of his organization is to obtain rass suppert to abolish | the HCUA, but the new Committee purposes will also inciude defense «f Smith Actznd Taft-Hartley victins. He said there will be no formal affiliation with any netienpal organization of sivilar purpose; however, the CCDER, accordiag to CRILEY, will consult and have liaiscr with national organizations having the sane purpese. According to the source, tha CP leadership agreed with the general direction of the CCDBR as outlined by CRILEY. A third source advised on May 3, 1962, that the CCDBR continues to adhere to the same aims and purposes and operates - under the same leadership. APPENDIX | -S--
