April 17, 1965.
The April 8, 1965, edition of "The Daily Oklahoman"
newspaper, published at Oklahoma City, Okiahcema, reflects an
article entitled "Sooners to Join Viet Nam Peace Vigil," which
contains the following information:
Two groups from Oklahoma will take part in a “silent,
standing vigil" on the weekend of April 17-18, 1965, near
President Johnson's Texas ranch, seeking a cease-fire and
negotiated peace in Viet Nam,
Plans for the demonstration were announced Wednesday
by Chet Briggs, chairman of the Houston (Texas) Citizens for
Action on Viet Nam and also a peace education*worker for the
Auerican Friends Service Committee (AFSC). Briggs said the
demonstration will either be on U. S. 290 near the Johnson City
ranch of the President or on a road leading to the ranch and will
include between 200 to 1000 demonstrators from Texas, Oklahoma
and other areas,
