2942, contains an article entitled "Fx-Red Won't
Register," fhe article relates thet the Reverend
A. J. MUSTE, Presbyterian Minister and Executive
Secretary of the Fellowship of Reconciliation (FOR),
had refused to register under the Selective Service
Act. In the article MUSTE is describec as a former
leader of the Trotskyite faction of the Communist
movement in this country. ‘The article also relates
that MUSTE was arrested in Illinois in 1934, charged
with plotting to overthrow the government, but he
was leter released.
The April 24, 1957, issue of "The Worker," page 16,
column 1, described A, J, MUSTE as the Dean of "So-
cialist Pacifists" and Secretary Rneritue of the
In August 1964, a source described A. J, MUSTE as
ational Chairman of the Committee on Non-Violent
