B. 40th Street 7 Seattle, Washington 7 , 4 Contact: Arthur M, Dye, Jr. ME 2=0502 FOR RELEASE SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 28, 1972 One hundred and seventy Americans from 41 states will leave from New York's Kennedy Airport on March 3 for a- week-long conference with principals in the Paris talks and others. Their objective is finding out what the requisites for paace in Southeast Asia really are. | The Citizens Conference on Ending the War in Indochina, as the project is called, is sponsored by the American Friends Service Committee (AFSC), Clergy & Laymen Concerned (CALC), and the Fellowship of Reconciliation (FOR). Participating in this conference from the Pacific Northwest will be Marie Chakirian, Cashmere, Washington, active in the Episcopal Chureh and various woren's groups; Rudy Gilbert, Unitarian minister, Spokane; and Kenneth A. Kirkoatrick, Director, Peace Education, Pacific Northwest Region, American Priends Service Com mittee. “The conference will afford a large number of American citizens access to and thoughtful discussion with many persons long familiar with the Indochina struggle," explained Stewart Meacham, peace education secretary of the AFSC, "Wa hope that - upon their return to the United States, the participants will be new and creative interpreters, in their respective communities, of what they understand the raequi- Sites of peace to really be.” Participants expect to meet with representatives of the Provisional Revolution= ary Government of the Republic of South Vietnam (PRG, formerly the Natfonal Libera- 4 Rannhif{e nf S REpuosse Os -Vietan (Saigon) and the U.S, Delegation. . 5 = nore ne ee aE ey
