FD-302 (Rev. 10-6-95) a FEDERAL BUREAU OF INVESTIGATION ALL INFORMATION CONTAINED HEREIN IS UNCLASSIFIED DATE 12-12-2008 BY 60324 UC BAW/RS/sTwW Date of transcription ~—§_Q1/29/2002 __ born . SSAN USAMRIID be Porter Street, Fort Detrick, Maryland 21702, phone number bIC was interviewed at[___]place of employment. After being advised of the nature of the interview and the identity of the interviewing agent,[__]provided the following information. has also worked on working with B. anthracis. | = did not subculture the samples. never been involved in the sporulation or drying processes. emphasized that[__]Jhad never even_seen the drying process and had no idea what would be involved. [__]knew that all aerosols used at USAMRIID were “wet”, or in solution. has had never heard of any incidents where pathogenic material was stolen, nor of any attempted thefts. did not know of any incidents of missing or lost material. There are concerns about surety regulations because tracking and maintaining inventory of biological material is difficult. Since organisms grow, reproduce, and die, knowing the exact amount at any given time is nearly impossible. Differences in the volume of material in a vial does not necessarily indicate that something has been stolen. Moreover, the volume or weight has nothing to do with the concentration of the material. Unless a theft involved a significant amount, it would likely go unnoticed. [believed the Ames strain came to USAMRIID from the USDA National Veterinary Services Lab (NVSL) in the late 1970's or early 1980's. It became the reference strain and was used in almost all tests. Until 1995, the consensus in the community was that there was little genetic variation among isolates of the Ames strain. eS molecular technique known as Investigation on 01/22/2002 at Fort Detrick, Maryland Ga! : File # 279A-WF-222936, 279A-BA-C101392 Date dictated 01/29/2002 27 2B WEA 222936 by SA 32 -~ (8aSB 1 OS This document contains neither recommendations nor conclusions of the FBI.
