vice presidcnt and himsclf, DUDLEY, as secretary. BERENSON
advised he had no objection to this arrangement,
Shortly thoreafter, DUDLEY either wrote or telephoned
BERENSON and told him that he was now forming the USPC. He
askod BERENSON to forward him a $200, check in payment for the
stock of tho corporetion. The telephone contacts from DUDLEY
were mado with BERENSON through telephone No. PLaza 9- 6302.
This was the telephone number for the Continental American
Travel Inc. at the Ritz Towers Hotel, of which concern BERENSON
was prosidcnt,
BERENSON advised that he forwarded the $200, check to |
PUDLEY. He stated NUDLEY told him he would issue stock to :
' BERENSON, BOWEN and himself. He did not ask DUDLEY concerning
the capital investments of either BOWEN or DUDLEY and at that.
time did not ask him concerning the number of shares of stock
that would be issued to each of the stockholders, BERENSON
advised that he docs not know now and never did know whether
DUDLEY and BOWEN madeo capital contribution to USPC,
BERENSON ‘advised that DUDLEY mAdo out the application
“for the ten tankers. Ye docs not recall whether ho saw the appli-
cation before PMUDLEY forwarded it to tho United States Maritime
Commission. BERENSON does recall that he received a photostatic
copy of the application about the time it was forwarded.
BERENSON advised that the tanker market wos very
active during Octobcr 1947. He stated that after the USPC
application was forwarded to the United States Maritime Commission
many brokcrs called him with propositions concerning the charter-
ing of the tankers when and if USPC obtained same. .
He advised that ho contacted Bryant and Vining, Simpson,
Spence and Young and other brokers whose names he could not recall
concerning the chartering of those tankers. Ho 4180 advised that
he contacted Lehman Rrothers, Lazard Freres, Equitable Life, the
First National Bank of Cnicago and other financial institutions ,
concorning the possible financing of the purchase of the vesselie
The brokers also had nuwncrous suggestions as to how these vessels
might bo financed.
