By attached teletype, Atlanta advises that
on Friday morning, 1/39/81, a meeting was held
in the Office of Maynard Jackson, Mayor,
Atlanta, Georgia. In addition to Mayor Jackson,
numerous city officials of Atlanta were present
as well as Acting Deputy Attorney General (DAG)
Renfrew and Ken Starr, Counsel to the Attorney
General.
At the outset, Mayor Jackson indicated hi
pleasure with the cooperation he has received
to date from the FFI toward solution of this
investigation; however, Mayor Jackson
requested assistance through the Federal
IGavernment in other areas relating to this
investigation. He cited the areas of crime
prevention, mental health, and funding of
equipment as those areas in which he reouests
Federal Government assistance.
| Acting DAG Renfrew informed the group that
he was in Atlanta at the request of President
Reagan and sees himself as a conduit for infor-
ration which will be passed on to the Attorney
q
General and subsequently, to other appropriate
officials.
Following the 45 minute meeting, a brief
press conference was held, after which
Renfrew and Starr returned to Washington.
