Telephone Rae, __ Cirector's See’y TKID MAJOR CASE #30 OO: ATLANTA LAC PURPOSE: To discuss work presently being conducted in the Microscopic Analysis Unit (MAU) of the FBI Laboratory with fibrous evidence related to the ATKID investigation. DETAILS: The MAU has in its possession four single fibers, each measuring approximately 1 to 2 centimeters in length, which is the evidence supplied to our Laboratory by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) Laboratory. These single fibers are representative of fiber types found common to the clothing and/or bodies of more than one victim in these cases according to the GBI Laboratory and, therefore, the determination of the type of item that each of these fibers originated from could possibly be of considerable significance. o aa “ t “a . The MAU has identified and characterized these fibers and is presently initiating t contacts with fiber manufacturers and companies that use fibers and/or yar s in their finished products in an attempt to obtain additional information.
