During review of Magee Carpet Company product
control specifications, it was determined that that company never
utilized Wellman 181-B, nylon fiber manufactured by Wellman
Company, Johnsonville, South Carolina, in their production of
carpeting. Magee Carpet Company manufactured various carpet lines
utilizing 100% nylon strand fiber under the tradename of:
Dupont 501
Antron II
Dupont Chemstran
Ccumuloft
Caprolan
The majority of nylon fiber carpet manufactured by Magee Carpet
Company was in the loop pile, carved or tweed pattern.
Magee Carpet Company records further reflect 99% of
all carpeting manufactured by that company to be in the 20-ounce
to 50-ounce per square yard pile weight category, which does not
include the weight of any backing material used. Majority of
carpet manufactured in the above category was determined to be
within the 25-ounce to 35-ounce per square yard pile weight
category. Cut pile carpeting as furnished in Williams" sample
was of a small production category, and those listed in the
carpet production control specifications did not compare to
specifications listed of Williams' carpet obtained from his
residence.
GD navisea, and through verification of review
of product control specifications for Magee Carpet Company, that
Typar latex chemical bonding agent was utilized. as a primary OC
backing in the manufacture of carpeting by Magee Carpet Company
on a small infrequent basis, estimatesthat Magee Carpet
Company utilized the Typar primary backing only in approximately
10% of the company's total production. Jute secondary backing
was used extensively by Magee Carpet Company in the 7-ounce,
9-ounce and 10-ounce per square yard weight. He indicated that
Magee Carpet Company, on most occasions, utilized 9-ounce or
10-ounce jute backing as the secondary backing in the manufacture
