The letters set out the proposed organisation of the Basque Intelligence in Venezuela together with the criticism of this proposed organisation as outlined by the Legal. Attache in Caracas. In addition, the Legal attache stated it was his opinion . that the Basque Organisation was exhibiting a lackadaisioal attitude which was apparently based on the premises that the war was won and that the Basque mombexg would rather work on private jobs than offer their investigative ser- meee DN / | _ «xDEREREER prom ose letters were discussed on July 27, 1944 by Jerome Doyle with zi President YAGUIRRE of the Basque Republic and ANTONIOYI secretary to the © ##/ President. It was ascertained that Venezuela Info ] ; advised Basque headquarters in New York that he has over to the Legal - ~~ Attache in Caracas a detailed memorandum setting out the planned Basque Orgen- - . ization in that country. It was suggested by President AGUIRRE that the Bas- que representative in Venezuela sit down with the Legal Attache of that country and oat the Legal Attache teli him what parts of his proposals were acceptable. and what parts were not. Mr. IRALA stated that in his opinion the Basques in Venezuela would perform considerable services if they have an actual work plan ~~ agreed upon with the Legal Attache’s Office.
