In the attached translation of De Lasarte's letter to Aguirre, it will be observed that he feels the reason behind this reduction in amount to be paid is not the concern over money itself but rather a loss of trust and understanding. De Lasarte has been assured that there has occurred no such "loss of trust and understancéing™ and has been told that the reason was exectly as stated; he appears, however, dep refuse consideration, 4 De Lasarte has also insisted that freedom in handling a certain amount of money should be given him to take care of unforseen contingencies, such as trips found necessary in connection with the intelligence work.
