BRECHT attended a social gathering at which e young Russian lady journalist
spoke. This inforastion was obtained by this source from a letter dated
July 20, 1943, from CHARLOTTE DIETERLE, mentioned above, to Dr. BxUHO
““PRRISTADT, 312 Calles Drive, Jimenez, texico, D.F., in which tirs. DIZTERLE
‘writes: "At present we have here a young kussian lady journalist from whom
- guch information can be had of a kind wiich would be of much interest to you
there. Recently there was a big social gathering at D's, where she spoke at.
& very interesting international gathering (THOMAS MANN, PEUCHTANGSR, BRECHT, "
BRUNO FRANK, BISLER, DZ KOBRA, LUBITSCH)." it

United States Attorney at Las angeles for permission to travel to Arrowhead, .
California, for the purpose of visiting P'‘TER LORKE. He indicated that he ge-
sired to leave July 3 and return July 6, 1945. In this connection, Source
reflects chat Sa had previously edvised that LORRE, who was cole -
laborating with SRECHT o ay, had advised friends that he spends time at

During July or August 19435, according to this source, BERT BHECET
attended a meeting for the purpose of endorsing the ‘ioscow manifesto issued
by the National Committees for Free Germany in Moscow during July. The informa-
tion furnished by this source was to the effect that on August 9, 1945, LIGH
FRUCHTYANGER had advised that TASS, the Kussian news agency, had requested him
end THOMAS MANN, brother of HEINRICH iAMN, to express their opinions on «
oertain matter. FRUCHTIANGSR olaimec that he convinced KAYN that he should
accent TASS's request only after a long discussion, and that thereafter a
mestine was held at the home of BEXTHOLD and SALZA YISRTEL, 165 Maberge Road,
Banta Monica, California, who have been mentioned previously, for the purpose
of drawing up a statenent. Persons present at the VITRTEL home and firet
agreed to sign such a statement, according to FEUCET‘ANGER, were TiS "AME,
