We are now in receipt of the reply which is a rather verbose declination based on a regulation prescribed by the ee etal le a Sa ety Soetal Security Board. It is attachede=n = During the war, Social Security furnished us information on cases directly concerned with the "successful prosecution of the war", You will recall that just recently they wrote to the Attorney General and stated sinée the President's proclamation terminating hostilities, this cooperation could now be honored only when we certify that the case in question grew out of the ware We accordingly directed a memorandum to the Attorney General protesting the lack of cooperation on the part of Social Security and pointing out that we now have'cases which are of at least as grave concern to the security of the country as during the war and asking hin to make every effort to effect arrangements whereby we could secure this invaluable information. » There are attached for your approval a teletype to Los angeles advising that Social Security has refused to~furnish the information needed by the police and a memorandum to the Attorney General advising of this incident t6 supplement our prevtous memorandum.
