With regard to the newspaper clipping which appeafed in the Times— is: Gansy.
1947, indicating that Daniel BA Yoorhees » With alias Dan
oorhees, had surrendered to the Ios Angeles Police Départment and had admitted
the murder of the victint, Elizabeth Short, who is also known as the "Black Dahlia",
the newspaper articié ‘indicated that Voorhees had previously been arrestéd iii
in Phoenix, .Arizona, for rape. The files of the Records Division fail to disclose
any previous record om Voorhees. The files of the Identification Division disclosed
the following criminal record on one Dan Voorhees, FBI-#1052309, who may be identical ~
with the individual who surrendered himself to the Los Angeles Police Department.

Voorhees was first arrested on December 6, 193k, by the Sheriffts Office,
Phoenix, Arizona, for auto theft. No disposition was given for this arrest. He
was next arrested on February 5, 1936, by the Phoenix, Arizona Police Department
on a charge of disturbing the peace. On February 8, 1936, he was given 180 days!
sentence and the sentence was suspended. A fingerprint card in Voorhees! jacket
dated October 28, 191, reflects that Voorhees was an applicant for a position
at the Fleet Operation Base, Roosevelt Base, Terminal Island, Long Beach, California.
Voorhees was arrested on September 9, 192, by the Sheriff's Office, Phoenix, Arizona,
on the charge of rape. The case was dismissed on October 19, 192, when Voorhees
was inducted into the U. 8S. Army.
LU. Se Army Washington, D. C., reflected that on May 30, 192, Voorhees applied for a
‘position in the Salvage Department. A disposition sheet contained in the file and
unsupported by fingerprints reflects that Voorhees was arrested on September 11, 195,
in Salt Lake City, Utah, and charged with vagrancy, disorderly conduct, and "B. of H"
(not a standard abbreviation and exact charge not knowmm). On September 13, 1945, he
was given a sentence of $25 or 30 days on this charge.
