I was told that MrsyGnau, the woman next to him in Apt.403 héard it all - the terrible obscene language the man wzs usting and the woman screaming, ahi ran dow and reported it to the manager - Phelps = in the office. He at once called policemen. Twelve ~ I was told = came and took old Hawkins - covered with blood ~ to jail. Later. ambulance came to get the gi#l's body. It was all cut up and Aerribly mutilated. oO Her mouth cut from ear to ear. The Jadysin Ne,400 fainted when ,, she saw it. Hawkifis - all cfeaned up - was let out by the sheriff and allowed to come back here to live as though nothing had happened. He's been going and coming ever since - so I'm told - and the second murder in L.A. within the past week - Feb,IOth~ has all the earmarks of his dirty work. Now, I do not know whether or not this matter/has been taken care of by any investigators. The police appear fo be doing nothing in regard to it. Maybe no one has reported.it/for fear of the police ~ as they already know all about it; having been here twelve strong that night of B.D's murder, She yas alive a few minutes before they got here.
