A. previous communication had said the slayer of the 22-year-old beauty would give himself up at "10 am. today. The hour came and went without anything hap- pening. New Note Sent Early this afternoon Capt. Jack Donahue of police homicide bu- reau received a note. It was ad- dressed to him and said: “T have changed my mind about surrendering. I’m afraid I won't get ‘a fair deal.” . The note was composed of le}: ters: and words cut from news papers, as were several previo messages apparently from ths killer. It came in a typewritten }, envelope, The, envelope and. note were turned over.to the police crime laboratory for study. The new note arrived shortly after. the ‘police had publicly pledged themselves to be fair’ to the-slayer if‘he gave himself up.
