EP Re SE Diya Gaon Thi hea In Reply, Please Refer to File No. Loos TED STATES DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE FEDERAE BUREAU OF INVESTIGATION Charlotte, North Carolina June 29, 1972 BLACK PANTHER PARTY (BPP) - FORTIFICATIONS EXTREMIST MATTERS The Black Panther Party (BPP) is a black extremist organization started in Oakland, California, in December, 1966. It advocates the use of guns and guerrilla tactics to bring about the overthrow of the United States Government. Headquarters for the North Carolina Chapter of the BPP is located at 1333 North Patterson Avenue, Winston-Salen, North Carolina. The BPP Chapter also maintains apartments at 1306-A Underwood Street and 210 East Fourteenth Street, both in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. The latter two apartments are periodically used by BPP members as residences, advised there haye been no recent incidents or arrests of BPP members for carrying weapons. He stated the BPP Chapter in Winston-Salem no longer maintains an armed guard at BPP Headquarters as they did in the past and he had no information indicating the BPP maintained any sort of weapons or explosive devices in BPP Headquarters. On June 12, 1972, CE T-1 advised that 1306-A Underwood Street was periodically used by BPP members, however, it was vacant as of that date. This source stated this residence contained no fortifications or protective devices and the BPP maintained no firearms or other weapons at this apartment.
