RE MEETING SPONSORED BY BPP CONCERNING GREENSBORO
REDEVELOPMENT COMMISSION
Redevelopment Project. Mr. BROOKS claimed that this group
of merchants had tried to form a Black Businessmen’s Association
s@ that they would have borrowing power in order to get the
bleck merchants back in business. The Redevelopment Commission
had turned them down, according to Mr. BROOES,
Mr. KENNETH LEE, 9 Negro attorney, then spoke briefly
aud explained how the Redevelopment Commission had gone about
obtaining the property on which the new A & P Store on East
Merket Street is presently located.
A few Nepro males. and females in the audience asked
come rue tions and then finally a Mer. BROWN, who represented the
Grerashore Redevelopment Commission, tried to tzlk. The pecple
dic vct want to hear him. They said that if Mr. BARKLEY was
not there, then they did not want to hear anyone else from the
Redevelopeent Commission. No white members cf the Redevelopment
Cammission were in attendance and Mr. BROWN was apparently the
only member who was there and he was a Negro.
The Chairman then asked everyone present toe sign 2
petition that would be presented to the Redevelopment Commission
expressing the demands and views as far as the actions of the
Redevelopment Commission were concerned.
HOWARDS FULLER, the Negro militant from Durham, North
Seralius, was present and he talked. FULLI-2'S remarks were by
fac the most inflammatory, according to T-1, and he stated,
“you see, you asked The Man to come to the meeting and he didn't,
so? lets go to him. When The Man asks you to mave, then just
dan’; move, Form a group that just will refuse to move.”
This was the gist of the remarks by FULLER and he
did ert some response from the crowd.
There were 2 number of Negro males tn the gudience
whe were otviously members of the Black Panther Party wearing
Fleck Panther jacknts and tams,
