ground, but he recalled BURGESS did mention that he had worked on Far
Haetern affair. in the British Torrign Office in London prior to coming
to the United jtates. 9PM said that BURGESS had talked a preat deal
about H. A. Rs PHILBY of the British Embassy. MQM advised he had never
met FHILBY but knew the name becanse PHILBY's father had been famous as
an expert on Arabia. He stated thot RURGESS not only staved with the
PhILBYs but elso ate his evening meal there. In this connection,
stated he did not. believe PURGESS to be as irresponsible ar newspaper
accounts of him indicated. He poisuted out in this regard that BULGESS
was very meticulcus about. being on time in the PHILEY home fer dinrer, and
that BUCKSS on one occagion, afier learning that sug wouldn't be able
to see lim until about 7:30 i.M., advised him that he would have to pet
in teuch with FHILBY and make different arrangeménts for dinner.
