London Oct 29 (Reuters) - The british Foreign Office disputed
& claim today that the F.B.I. holds a recording of a privete
speech containing Communist sympathies made in New York by
a British diplomat.
But the Foreign Office did not deny a statement issued
yesterday that the Diplomat - Donald Maclean who vanished
apparently to east Europe 18 months ago - heid Communist
sympathies.
Maclean was nared as a sympathiser by Foreign Undersecretary
Loré Reading in the House of Lords yesterday.
He was replying to a charge from a member, Lorc Elton, that
the F.5.I. had the speech recording. Reading denied any ~«__
knowledge of the speech.
A Foreign Office spokesman suggested today tnat there may
be confusion over another speech which was recorded at a
New York purty by another missing diplomat, Guy Burgess, wna.
