On September 11, 1953, Melinda Maclean and her three
children left her mother's house in Geneva, Switzerlanc, where’ they

automobile was locatec in a garage in Lausanne, Switzerland, se anc

Son of a prominent Pritish family. Maclean received his education
at Camoricce University following which he entered the Foreign Seruice

except for the period from September, 193, to June, 1940, when he
served in the British Embassy, teris, France. In Hay, 1944, he was
assigned to the British 3ubassy, Yaoshington, D. C., as Second Secretary.
He was promoted to First Secretary in October, 1944, He remained in
Hashington until October, 1941, when he became Head oy the Chancery
Sectton of the British Snbassy in Cairo, Exypt. He remained at this
location until ay, 1950, when he was recallec to London sufyering “
