Mise Gandy SAC Dalton of the Oucha Office tele hont cally connunicated with me on the afternoon of May rm 19k9, and advised that he had received tnforaatica that Cardinal Spellman — would be in Omaha Friday atght to participate tn a dedication of certain new buildings im Boys Town. Dalton stated that he had been contacted concerning any protection which the FBI had arranged for Cardinal Spellman. Dalton stated that there appeared to be an understanding that we would be furnishing guards for the Cardinal. I advised SAC Dalton that no such arrangerent had been such duty. JZ further told him that, of course, if the Cardinal requested agatat - ance which we could render in the fora of services, that there would be no objection to affording him such asstatances Aowever, we would not sesign any guards. SAC Dalton stated that he was sure the Cardinal knew nothing about such arrangenents and unless advised to the contrary, ke would not consider furnishing ony Special Agents for guard duty.
