NY 92-911
On August 24, 1977, GALANTE appeared in the United
States District Court (USDC), Miami, Florida, where he stated
that he would continue to take the Fifth Amendment in his
appearance before the Grand Jury in Miami, Florida. The court
directed that GALANTE be committed to the custody of the United
States Marshal until he decided to answer specific questions
or until the termination of the Grand Jury. The court allowed
GALANTE ten days to file an appeal. GALANTE was released on
$50,000 bond.
On October 11, 1977, GALANTE surrendered to the
United States Marshal's Office, Southern District of New York
(SDNY), and was held in jail for allegedly violating his parole
by associating with known criminals. Mr. GALANTE's attorney,
ROY M. COHN, petitioned the Federal District Court, SDNY, to
release GALANTE on bail pending a full parole revocation hearing.
Judge ROBERT J. WARD scheduled a hearing on the bail release
question for October 14, 1977.
