BUILDING SPONSORED BY UNITED FARM WORKERS
TO PROTEST FARM BILL BEFORE
ARIZONA STATE LEGISLATURE
APRIL 3 - 4, 1972
PHOENIX, ARIZONA
On March 31, 1972, Source One advised a group
led by Gustavo Gutierrez, representing the United Farm
Workers (UFW) Union, planned a protest demonstration at
the State Capitol Building, Legislative Quarters, Phoenix,
Arizona,

Gutierrez and approximately ten to fifteen .
persons will stage a silent vigil in front of the State
Capitol Building on April 3, 1972. They plan to remain
throughout the night and be present when House Bill 2134
is brought before the Arizona House on April 4, 1972.
Arizona House Bill 2134 deals with farm workers and
management with one portion that would allow a temporary
injunction for ten days against any strikes of farm
laborers engaged in harvesting. The UFW are opposed to
this bill and have urged many local organizations to
oppose this bill. A large-scale letter writing campaign
was initiated by UFW., Gustavo.Gutierrez is Known to be in
contact with Cesar Chavez of the California UFW and it is
believed Gutierrez gets guidance from Chavez,

2134 came to vote on April 4, 1972. Prior to the vote,
the gallery composed mainly of Chicano farm workers, became
noisy, At this time, the House Sergeant of Arms asked
the gallery to leave and they did so without incident,
The UFW held a peaceful vigil on Capitol grounds while
this bill was being considered,
