Some 100 of these workers entered the U. S. to work after the picket line dispersed. The article quoted UFWOC spokesman as having said they had telegraphed President LYNDON 8, JOHNSON to request investigation of the Texas Rangers, as Rangers had "shoved" several union members and were strike breakers, On M 7 , advise : EUGENE NELSON, leader of the UFWOC at Rio Grande City, had been arrested the previous day after having threatened Texas Rangers by stating there would be some dead rangers unless they left the UFWOC pickets alone. NELSON was immediately taken before a Justice of the Peace who set bond at $2,000. He was remanded to the Starr County Jail in lieu of bond.
