stn, UNITED FARM TORMERS ORGANIZING COMMITTZ: AFL - CIO, DSLANC, CALIFORNIA members in Delano, California. The pickets returned on August 14, 1968, and as of 2:00 p.m., Ausust 14, approx- imately 25 pickets including Chavez remained at the police station. Chief EB: --<: he had learnec that Chavez (Bee) appeared on an unknown television station in Los Anceles, California, during the evening of August 13, 1968, at which time he made the announcement he had requested Attorney General Ramsey Clark to furnish a sufficient number of United States Marshals to police the proposed Labor Day UF.0C Parade at Delano, California. Chie! stated Chavez had pre- (S019 viously applied for a parade permit through the City of Delano in connection with the contemplated UFYOC parade, to consist of 25,000 to 30,000 union members and sympathizers on September 2, 1968. This permit was denied by the City of Delano merely because they did not feel his Department coulac safely cope with the proposed number of participants in the parade cue to the limited manpower situation on his forces, He said circumstances indicate that the above men- tioned picketing was planned in advance in view of Chavez's appearance on television in Los Angeles, California, Chief aan stated there has been no violence (MNS involved and he expects none at this time.
