Director, March 7, 1941 Pace 5. land, not off in Afriec, I want & wonderful defense, I want the world's best navy, but I want it in American waters, and not in Singapore. I want an air force that will excel the RK. A. F., but IT don't want it over the English Channel, ‘That's the kind of a National Defense I want. "Thg@ say we will be invaded if Germany wins. They have me 80 scared some nights that I actually look under the bed to see if Mr. Hitler isn't there, He's going to send all of his men ina rowboat to take us all back. I say that these ideas ebout invasion mist be caused as 4@ result of champagne cocktails served by the social get before they go to the William Allen Write Committee. Let's look into this. They would have to take three thousand miles in one jump. Then you come down to South America, You realize how far it is from Germany to Dakar, only 3,250 miles, When he comes to Dakar, ..seeseeeseseses Tsen we are told that there are two million Germans, there are old women, old men, women, children and babies. How can these people and these armies fight their way through the jungles of Brazil? Now, they say, well how about Newfoundland? But they don't tell you that Newfoundland has not bemable to send off the majority of its planes. We are not in dangerof invesion. I don't want any part of this war, end 1 say let's keep out of war. "Oh, and how about Great Britain fighting the American bat- tle, and that the future of democracy ia at stake. Don't be fooled, my friends, that wasn't said on February 27, 1941, but on the fifth day of February, 1916, It's the same old stuff that theytre giving you and want you to swallow, I want to say when dic Great Britain ever fight for any country in the world except Great Britain? (Applause) I wish thet we had more Americans that are for America than Americans for Grest Britain. "I realize that Washington is filled with a war group. I realize that some individuals look on this war as a big W.P.A. project. This country is saturated with foreign propaganda. The i Department of Justice issued orders to look into German propaganda, | Russian propaganda, but not British propaganda. British arents ere already on the inside of our Government. Well, I want a little + American propaganda, (Anplause.) . "May I say here that I am getting vretty sidc end tired of helping all these refuges wno came over to America to get away
