RE: AMERICA FIRST COMMITTEE MEETING AT
OLYMPIC AUDITORIUM, Los Angeles,
California, October 2, 1941.
with great enthusiasm by the audience.
The meeting was generally orderly, with only two
incidents being noted by the observers. Upon launching his
attack against the movie industry, one person in the audience
rose and called Senator WHEELER a liar. It was a minor disturbe
ance, and this individual was ejected by the police. A middie-
aged woman stalked down the aisle on the main floor of the audi-
torium to inspect the Indian at close range, stating she did not
believe he was a real Indian. There was no violence with this
incident, and the entire thing was greeted with laughter by the
audience,
In general, the audience was very attentive and
receptive, and the applauded the speaker most loudly when he
referred to statements about keeping America out of the present
wer and keeping American boys at home. Although his accusations
against the President of not 3x eping hia 1940 campaign promises,
and his jests of WENDELL L. WILIKIE drew applause from the audience,
at no time was there hissing or booing at the mention of the name
of the President or that of WENDELL L. WILLKIE. Before, during,
and after the meeting, pamphlets and papers were passed out and
copies of two of them ere being atteched to this communication.
The Los Angéles press reports that 11,000 persons were in attendance
at the meeting.
