Tt was also discovered that the north fence of the United
States Coast Guard had been cut approximately two and one-half
feet high and two and one-half feet wide. The above
mentioned strand of wire was obtained from the north fence
at the point of cutting and the seven pieces of cuttings
were obtained from the ground at the point of the hole in
the fence of the United States Coast Guard premises at
Terminal Island. The subject has admitted verbally to
Associate Warden ROBERT I. MOSELEY that he was endeavoring
to escape but no mention was made with respect to the cutting
ef the hole in the north fence of the United States Coast
Guard premises at Terminal Island. Subject declined to
state whether or not he cut the above mentioned hole for
the vourpose of escape to Agents of the FBI.
It is requested that items No. 1 and @ above
be processed for latent fingerprints and if latents are
obtained, comparison should be made with the fingerprints of
Subject, CHARLES MILLES MANSON, FBI No. 643369A. Will
endeavor to determine whether item No. 3 above, the copper
wire, was cut by either the pliers, item No. 1, or the wire
cutters, item No. 2, mentioned above. Will endeavor to
determine whether the above pliers or wire cutters were used
to cut the fence in cuestion by comparison with the strand of
fence, item No. 4, and the wire cuttings, item No. 5, mentioned
above.
¥t is requested that al11 of the enclosed items
be returned to the Los Angeles Office after your examinaticn
has been conducted.
