UNITED STATES GOVEXNMENT Memorandum TO > SAG DATE: 8/16/69 FROM : SA LAURENCE B. CASEY SUBJECT: TATE HOMICIDE CASE - LAPD MATTER POLICE COOPERATION At 5:00PM on this dated LT. HELDER, LAPD HOMICIDE DETAIL, 624-5211, ex. 2531, tel. advised that he had been instruded by CHEIF ROBERT HOUG:ITON to call this office. LT. HELDER stated that CHEIF HOUGHTON wanted to be contacted by SUPER. BILL NOLAN, and that HOUGHTON could be contacted at 714.-673-1028. I then contacted SUPER NOLAN'S home and it was ascertained that he was not ine I then called LT. HELDER and advised him (HELDER) that SUPER. NOLAN was not presently available. I then asked LT. H=LDER if I could be of any assistance. LT. HELDER that he was assigned to captioned case and wanted to known what type of contacts this Bureau had in M Jamaica, West Indies. LT. HELDER indicated that the LAPD needed information as regards date of arrival, date of departure, and leoation of certain individuals. I advised LT. HELDER that I would check and be in touch xx with him. SUPER. ST. VINCENT was then contacted re above and he advised that I should contact LT. HELDER and tell him that Jamaica was probably handled thru Bu sources and that we do not have an Agent in residence in that area. At 5:28PM I contacted LT. HELDER and advised him re above and he (HELDER) said that he would be in touch with BU SUPER of the LA Office on Monday morning 8/18/69. HELDER indicated that he was now going off duty and would return MONDAY AM. ADDENDUM WILLIAM J. NOLAN/jae_ - 8/18/69 Deputy Chief HOUGHTON contacted Supervisor WILLIAM JOHN NOLAN 8/18/69 regarding covering of lead at Jamaica. He advised that LAPD had no specific data on the murders but wanted to check up on an individual who was in Jamaica and who might have been in Los Angeles. He desired to have a surveillance on the person at Jamaica. Chief HOUGHTON was advised that the FBI did not have facilities at Jamaica for this work and that perhaps the U State Department could make appropriate arrangements.
