NE ET ET EA Se err ecior Sec"y i ‘Ss - Mr. Mintz PURPOSE: To advise regarding issuance cf subpoena for the Director or another designated Custodian of Records and request for production of documents March 16, 1977, in connection with above-captioned civil suit. - SYNOPSIS' AND DETAILS: On January 21, 1977, WFO forwarded three 7 copies of a Deposition Subpoena directed to Clarence Kelley, Director, FBI, or another designated Custodian of Records commanding appearance on February 22, 1977, to testify and bring records on behalf of the defendant, The Washington Post Company. Appearance was to be at offices of Williams, Connolly, and Califano, 1000 Hill Building, N.W., Washington, D.C., and is called for production of documents relating to a loan on or about es July 20, 1968, of ‘approximately $195,000 by Key Biscayne Bank to Charlies L. Lewis; 900 shares of ISM stock pledged as collateral; and theft of aforementioned stock-certificates from vaults of da E. FP. Hutton & Company, New York, New York. An identical subpoena’ } igs was issued for the SAC, Miami. ; Poo yee op bee jee: : ; On February 18, 1977, Departmental Attorney, Steve uy Weglian, Criminal Division, advised subpoena fdr- the Director, FBI, and for SAC, Miami, would be amended so as to center on ce Rebozo and narrow the scope of the original subpoenas. Weglian yer confirmed that the Director and SAC, Miami would not have to appear on 2/22/77 as directed in subpoenas and new subpoenas would be issued.. (Copy of amended subpoena attached.)
